Getting there

How to Get to the BER Airport Station

From the City Centre

  • Airport Express: The FEX runs about every 15 minutes from Berlin Hauptbahnhof via Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz to the airport. It takes about 23 minutes from Hauptbahnhof and 15 minutes from Südkreuz.
  • RE20: An hourly regional train on the same route, continuing to Königs Wusterhausen and Lübbenau.
  • From Ostkreuz: The regional trains RB24 and RB32 run about once an hour each, and the S-Bahn S85 every 20 minutes.
  • S-Bahn S9: Runs every 20 minutes from the airport via Ostbahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstraße, Hauptbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten to Spandau. It is slower than the FEX but stops in many neighbourhoods.
  • Tickets: You need an ABC ticket for any trip between the city and the airport.

Within the Airport

  • The station is directly below Terminal 1. Terminal 2 is a short walk away and is signposted.

Platforms and station layout

The station lies under Terminal 1. From the arrivals and departures halls, escalators and lifts lead down to a station concourse with ticket machines, and from there to the platforms.

The platforms are long and divided into lettered sections. Airport Express, regional trains and S-Bahn trains can leave from different tracks, so check the departure boards in the concourse, or DB Navigator, for your train's platform before you go down.

If you are heading to Terminal 2, take the exit for Terminal 1 and follow the signs; the two terminals are next to each other.

Practical tips

Tips for First-Time Visitors

Before You Arrive

  • Buy an ABC ticket: The airport is in fare zone C. An AB ticket is not valid for the trip and a common reason for fines. If you have a Deutschlandticket, it covers the S-Bahn, the FEX and regional trains.
  • Download DB Navigator or the BVG app: You can buy your ticket on your phone before you land and skip the machines.
  • Validate paper tickets: Single tickets from the machines usually have to be stamped before boarding. App tickets are valid straight away.

At the Station

  • Take the first train that suits you: The FEX is fastest to Hauptbahnhof, but a regional train or the S-Bahn may take you closer to your hotel without a change.
  • Allow time on the way back: Plan to arrive at the airport station well before your flight, as security queues can be long.

Common Mistakes

  • Wrong ticket zone: Buying an AB ticket instead of ABC is the most common mistake travellers make here.

About this station

Underground station directly beneath Terminal 1 of Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), in Schönefeld just outside the city boundary. It opened with the airport in 2020.

For most visitors this is the first Berlin station they see. The Airport Express (FEX) runs every 15 minutes via Südkreuz and Potsdamer Platz to Berlin Hauptbahnhof, regional trains connect the airport with the city and the wider region, and the S-Bahn lines S9 and S85 serve many neighbourhoods directly.

The airport is outside Berlin's city fare zones A and B, in zone C. This is the single most important thing to know before buying a ticket here.
