Getting there

How to Get to Berlin Gesundbrunnen

From BER Airport

From the City Centre

  • From Hauptbahnhof: Many long-distance and regional trains run between Hauptbahnhof and Gesundbrunnen in a few minutes.
  • S-Bahn: The north–south lines S1, S2, S25 and S26 and the Ringbahn S41 and S42 stop here.

Platforms and station layout

Gesundbrunnen is a long station in a cutting below street level, with the Ringbahn and the north–south lines running side by side.

Footbridges cross over the platforms and connect them with the station entrances and the entrance building. The S-Bahn platforms and the long-distance and regional platforms are separate, so look at the signs on the footbridge before going down.

The U8 underground station is beneath the street nearby and is signposted from the station entrances.

Practical tips

Tips for First-Time Visitors

Before You Arrive

  • Download DB Navigator: It shows live platforms and delays and sells long-distance and local tickets.
  • Tickets: Berlin is split into fare zones A, B and C. Zones A and B cover the whole city; zone C covers the surroundings, including BER Airport. The Deutschlandticket is valid on all S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram, bus and regional trains, but not on ICE or IC trains.
  • Validate paper tickets: Single tickets bought from a BVG machine usually have to be stamped in the small validators at the platform entrance before you travel. Tickets bought in the BVG or DB Navigator app are valid straight away.

At the Station

  • Shopping and food: The Gesundbrunnen-Center next door has supermarkets and cheaper food than most station kiosks.
  • Footbridges: Allow a few extra minutes with luggage: you have to cross a footbridge to reach most platforms. Lifts are available.

Common Mistakes

  • Construction until 12 December 2026: while the Stadtbahn is closed, the RE2 and some long-distance trains are diverted via Gesundbrunnen. Check your booking for the station your train uses.
  • Platform changes: Long-distance platforms can change at short notice. Check the departure boards or DB Navigator again shortly before your train.
  • Separate platforms: S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains leave from different platforms. Follow the signs for your train type.
