Platform Guide & Layout
Welcome to Wick, the historic northern terminus of Scotland’s famous Far North Line. If you are arriving here for the first time, you will find the station layout exceptionally straightforward and stress-free. Unlike the sprawling, multi-level hubs you might encounter in major cities, Wick is a compact, single-platform station.
Because it functions as a terminal station, the railway tracks simply come to an end here. Think of the layout as a single, linear path: you arrive at the station entrance, and the platform is right there in front of you. There are no confusing wings, underground tunnels, or upper-level concourses to navigate. Whether you are arriving from Inverness or heading out to explore the stunning Caithness coast, all train services arrive at and depart from this one platform.
Because there is only one platform, navigation is effortless. You do not need to worry about platform numbers, lettered zones, or long walking distances between connections. From the moment you step off your train, you are effectively at the station exit. The platform itself is long enough to accommodate a ten-carriage train, providing plenty of space for passengers to board and alight comfortably.
For first-time visitors, the primary "navigation" tip is simply to look for the main station building. The ticket office, waiting area, and toilet facilities are all located directly on or adjacent to this single platform. If you arrive when the ticket office is staffed, you can easily ask for assistance, but the simplicity of the station means you are unlikely to feel disoriented.
Accessibility is also very manageable here. The station features step-free access throughout, ensuring that if you are travelling with heavy luggage or require mobility assistance, you can move easily between the train and the station entrance. With such a simple, single-platform design, you can spend less time worrying about your surroundings and more time enjoying the spectacular scenery of the far north of Scotland. Just follow the signs toward the platform, and you will be exactly where you need to be.
