Platform Guide & Layout: Uzhhorod Station
Uzhhorod Railway Station is a straightforward, manageable hub that serves as a vital gateway between Ukraine and Central Europe. Unlike sprawling metropolitan terminals, this station features a compact, easy-to-navigate layout with three main platforms. Think of the station as a single, linear facility where all passenger activity is concentrated in one central area, making it very difficult to get lost even as a first-time visitor.
The station complex itself is split into two distinct sections: the modern main terminal building, which handles long-distance domestic trains (such as those to Kyiv or Lviv), and the renovated historic building, which specifically serves suburban commuter trains within the Transcarpathian region. Because there are only three platforms in total, you will not encounter complex multi-level numbering systems or confusing wings. All platforms are easily accessible from the main concourse at ground level.
Regarding international connections to Slovakia and Hungary, it is important to note that Uzhhorod primarily acts as a regional hub. While the recently opened standard-gauge line has enhanced connectivity toward the border, international passenger services often connect through the nearby major junction at Chop. If you are traveling toward the Slovakian or Hungarian borders, confirm your specific departure platform on the digital information boards located in the Grand Hall. Because the station is quite small, you can comfortably walk between any of the three platforms in under three minutes, even with luggage.
First-time visitors sometimes feel disoriented because the station serves both domestic and international traffic, but the simplicity of the three-platform layout prevents any major navigation issues. Simply follow the signage for "Platforms" (Платформи) from the central waiting hall. If you have any trouble finding your train, the information desk in the Grand Hall is centrally located and easy to spot. The station’s small scale means you do not need to arrive hours in advance; arriving 20–30 minutes before your scheduled departure is more than sufficient to navigate from the entrance to your platform. Always keep your ticket handy, as you may need to present it when accessing the platform area.
