Welcome to Slagelse Station. As a first-time visitor, you will find this to be a very straightforward and manageable station. Unlike massive transit hubs, Slagelse features a simple, compact layout with only three platforms serving five tracks, making it very difficult to get lost.
The station operates as a through station on the main line between Copenhagen and Funen/Jutland, while also serving as the southern terminus for the local Tølløse branch line. Think of the layout as a single, accessible area where all platforms are located on the same ground level, parallel to one another. There are no confusing upper or lower levels to navigate. You can easily move between the platforms via the underpass, which is equipped with stairs and elevators to ensure accessibility for all travelers, including those with heavy luggage or mobility needs.
Platform 1 is a side platform directly adjacent to the station building, primarily serving regional and InterCity trains heading toward Copenhagen. Platforms 2 and 3 are island platforms—meaning they have tracks on both sides—and they handle the bulk of the through traffic, including InterCity services toward Funen and Jutland, as well as regional routes. Because the station is quite compact, you will not need to plan for long walking times; even between the most distant points, you can comfortably traverse the station in under three to five minutes.
The most important tip for a first-timer is to simply check the digital departure boards in the main concourse or the underpass upon arrival. Because the station is small, the platform number for your specific train will be clearly displayed and will not change unexpectedly. If you are arriving by bus, the station is conveniently located immediately adjacent to the Slagelse bus terminal, so your connection will be just a short walk away. Just follow the signs for "Tog" (trains) if you are arriving from the street, or look for the exit signs leading toward "Busterminal" if you are transferring. Everything is centrally located, so take your time, follow the clear signage, and enjoy your journey through West Zealand.
