Platform Guide & Layout: Gara Suceava (Burdujeni)
Suceava’s main railway station, Gara Suceava (historically known as Burdujeni), is a beautiful, historic building that serves as the primary gateway to the Bukovina region and its famous painted monasteries. Despite the station's grand, monumental appearance, the platform layout is straightforward and compact.
The station functions as a through station with a total of five tracks, though for most passengers, it effectively operates with three main platforms. Think of the layout as a simple, linear arrangement: you will find the main platforms immediately accessible from the station building. While there are two additional tracks located slightly further out, these are used infrequently and are rarely relevant for standard tourist routes. There are no complex upper or lower levels, tunnels, or confusing wings to navigate here; the entire platform area is situated on a single ground level.
For travelers heading toward the Bukovina region or the painted monasteries, trains typically depart from the main platform area directly in front of the station building. Because the station is quite small, you do not need to worry about long walking times or complex transfers. You can comfortably walk from the station entrance to any platform in under two to three minutes. There are no elevators or escalators needed, as the entire station is level-access.
The most common point of confusion for first-time visitors is not the layout itself, but the station name. Ensure your ticket reads "Suceava" (or Gara Burdujeni). Do not confuse this with "Suceava Nord" (formerly Ițcani), which is a separate station located about 3 kilometers away.
To manage your time effectively, arrive at the station 15–20 minutes before your scheduled departure. This gives you ample time to check the electronic departure boards in the main hall to confirm your specific platform number, purchase a ticket if you haven't already, and walk to your train at a relaxed pace. The station is small enough that any last-minute platform changes are easily navigated on foot, and station staff or fellow travelers are generally helpful if you need quick clarification.
