Navigating Stralsund Hbf is a straightforward experience, even for a first-time visitor. The station features a compact, easy-to-understand layout with 6 platform tracks in total. Think of it as a small-to-medium regional hub where everything is centrally clustered, rather than a sprawling multi-level complex.
The station operates as a hybrid: it contains both through tracks and terminal tracks. The three tracks serving the line to Rostock are through tracks, while the other three (numbered 1–3) are configured as terminal tracks. Because the entire station is manageable in size, you will not need to account for long transit times between platforms. You can comfortably navigate from one end of the station to the other within a few minutes, even with standard luggage.
As the primary gateway to the island of Rügen and a central hub for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Stralsund Hbf is well-signposted. Regional trains (RE and RB lines) and longer-distance Intercity (IC/ICE) trains all share the same main platform area. While there are no complex "upper" or "lower" levels to worry about, always check the main electronic departure boards in the central hall or the tunnel entrance to confirm your specific platform number, as these can occasionally change based on operational needs.
