Lübeck's city center is compact and very close to the station.
Welcome to Lübeck Hauptbahnhof! As a first-time visitor, you will find this station to be a straightforward and manageable transit hub. Unlike massive metropolitan stations that span multiple levels and wings, Lübeck Hauptbahnhof features a compact, user-friendly layout.
The station is a through station, meaning trains do not typically terminate here but continue their journeys. It features a straightforward arrangement with 8 platform tracks. Think of the station as a central bridge—the reception building—that "rides" over the tracks. All platforms are accessible from this central concourse, making it very difficult to get lost.
Because there are only 8 platforms, you do not need to worry about navigating complex levels or distant wings. All platforms are located at the same level relative to the main concourse. You will simply walk from the main entrance area onto the bridge and take the stairs, escalators, or elevators down to your designated platform.
Since the station is small, walking times are minimal. You can reach any platform from the main entrance in just 2–3 minutes, even with luggage. If you have mobility needs or heavy bags, look for the large, clearly marked elevators located near the main thoroughfare of the station bridge, which provide direct, barrier-free access to every platform.
Enjoy your time in this historic Hanseatic city! Once you descend to your platform, you are perfectly positioned to begin your journey through the beautiful Schleswig-Holstein region.

It features a historic, four-aisle platform hall that underwent extensive modernization, including a complete renewal of the platform structures and passenger bridge completed in 2007, followed by electrification in 2008.
Is this station huge and confusing? For first-time travelers, Lübeck Hauptbahnhof is a manageable, straightforward facility. It operates with eight main platform tracks, all of which are accessible via a central passenger bridge equipped with elevators, making the station fully accessible. While it serves as a busy transit point for regional and local traffic, it is not a massive, multi-level labyrinth.
