Welcome to Târgu Mureș. Navigating this station is a straightforward experience, as it features a compact, easy-to-understand layout with only three platforms in total. Unlike larger European hubs that can feel overwhelming, Târgu Mureș is designed for simplicity, making it ideal for first-time visitors who may be feeling slightly anxious about finding their train.
Think of the station as a single, linear row. All three platforms are situated on the same ground level, running parallel to the main station building. Because there is only one level, you do not need to worry about navigating elevators, escalators, or complex subterranean tunnels to find your departure point. Once you walk through the main station entrance, you will have a clear view of the tracks. The platforms are numbered 1, 2, and 3, starting from the side closest to the station building and moving outward.
These three platforms serve all key regional routes across Central Transylvania, including trains heading toward destinations like Cluj-Napoca, Brașov, and Deda. Since the station is small, the walking distance between the station entrance and any of the three platforms is minimal—typically no more than a one-to-two-minute walk, even with luggage.
The primary tip for first-time visitors is to pay close attention to the departure boards located in the main waiting hall. Because the layout is so compact, the most common point of confusion is simply ensuring you are on the correct platform side, as some trains may arrive on a track that requires you to cross the platform area. However, because everything is on one level, you can easily see the train before it departs. If you arrive with 10–15 minutes to spare before your scheduled departure, you will have more than enough time to orient yourself, check the signage, and reach your train comfortably. There is no need to rush, as the station's scale makes it a very accessible and manageable environment for every traveler.
Traveling to Târgu Mureș is a wonderful way to experience the heart of Transylvania, but navigating the local railway system requires a bit of insider knowledge to avoid stress. I wish someone had told me these things before my first trip!

To ensure a smooth journey, travelers should note that while the station is well-signposted, platform assignments can occasionally change 30 to 60 minutes before departure. It is advisable to check the digital display boards upon arrival or ask station staff to confirm your specific platform. The station is a functional, historical landmark rather than a sprawling complex, making it a comfortable starting point for your exploration of the region.
