Welcome to Nice-Ville, the primary gateway to the French Riviera. As a first-time visitor, you will find this station’s layout straightforward, though its historic architecture can feel bustling. Despite the station being a major hub, it is relatively compact, featuring platforms lettered A through G rather than numbered. Think of the station as a single, linear row of tracks running parallel to the main station building.
Platform A is located immediately adjacent to the main station building on the south side, while Platform G is situated on the far north side. Because this is a through station, trains do not hit a "dead end"; they continue along the coast toward Marseille or toward the Italian border. All platforms are accessed from the main hall via a pedestrian subway that runs beneath the tracks with stairs leading up to each platform. If you are traveling with heavy luggage or require step-free access, look for the modern overbridge located at the far west end of the trainshed. This overbridge is equipped with elevators and an up-only escalator, connecting the main hall directly to all platforms.
Navigating the station is generally simple, but the key is to allow yourself enough time. While it is not a massive multi-level complex, walking from the main hall to the furthest platform can take 5–8 minutes if you are navigating crowds or using the elevators. For the most efficient experience, check the large electronic departure boards in the main hall immediately upon arrival; they will clearly indicate your assigned lettered platform.
A common point of confusion for first-timers is the gate system. You will encounter ticket gates ("Embarquement") in the main hall. Some gates are used for general regional (TER) services, while others are specific to high-speed (TGV) trains. Always have your ticket—digital or physical—ready to scan at these gates. If you feel lost, the station is well-signposted, and the main hall is the central point for all orientation. By keeping the main building to your south and the tracks running east-to-west, you will quickly find your way to the correct platform for your journey along the coast.
