Warszawa Centralna is a straightforward, through-style station, making it much easier to navigate than larger European hubs. Despite its status as Poland’s primary railway gateway, the station features a compact layout with only four island platforms (numbered 1 through 4) serving eight tracks in total. Think of the station as having two distinct zones: the light-filled main hall at street level, which houses ticket offices and shops, and the underground level where all train departures and arrivals occur.
Platforms 1 and 2 are dedicated to eastbound traffic, while platforms 3 and 4 serve westbound trains. Because it is a through station, trains do not terminate here; they stop briefly before continuing their journey, so be ready to board quickly when your train arrives. To reach your platform, you will descend from the main hall into an underground mezzanine level that spans the length of the station. From this mezzanine, you can access any of the four platforms via escalators, stairs, or elevators.
The most common point of confusion for first-time visitors is the distinction between the platform number (Peron) and the track number (Tor). Each island platform has two tracks—one on each side—so always verify both numbers on the departure screens. Do not be misled by the nearby Warszawa Śródmieście station; while they are connected by underground passages, they are separate entities serving different types of regional trains.
Because the entire station is relatively small, you do not need to worry about long walks between distant platforms. Even with luggage, you can comfortably move from the main hall to any platform in under five minutes. If you are arriving by train, simply follow the signs for the main hall (Hala Główna) or the exit signs for the city center. Escalators are located centrally on each platform, providing the most direct route to the upper levels. If you find yourself needing assistance, information points and helpful staff are available in the main hall to guide you toward the correct platform for your departure.
