Platform Guide & Layout
Navigating Sarreguemines station is a straightforward experience, thanks to its compact and logical design. As a through station serving as a key connection point on the French-German border, it features a simple layout with only 3 platforms. Think of it as a small, efficient hub where you can easily find your train without the stress of navigating complex levels or distant wings.
All three platforms are located on a single, ground-level area directly accessible from the main station building. Because there is only one level, you will not need to worry about stairs, elevators, or long walks between platforms. Whether you are arriving on a regional TER train or transferring to the cross-border Saarbahn tram-train, the entire boarding process takes place in the same immediate vicinity.
For travelers heading toward the German border, it is helpful to know that Platform 1 is the primary arrival and departure point for the cross-border Saarbahn service to Saarbrücken. This service acts as a vital link between the two countries, running every half hour. Because the station is quite small, walking from the station entrance to any of the three platforms takes only a minute or two, even with luggage.
The main point of potential confusion for first-time visitors is not the layout itself, but rather the ticketing process for the cross-border tram-train. Please note that the ticket machine for the Saarbahn service is located specifically on Platform 1. If you are starting your journey from Sarreguemines toward Germany, head directly to Platform 1 to secure your ticket.
While the station is small, it remains a busy transit point. Because the layout is so compact, you do not need to arrive excessively early; however, allowing 10–15 minutes before your scheduled departure is always a good practice to ensure you have time to locate your specific platform and purchase any necessary tickets. With only three platforms to choose from, you will find this station very easy to navigate, allowing you to focus on your onward journey across the border.
